Derek Dosdall, PhD

Assistant Professor

Derek Dosdall, PhD, attended Brigham Young University, where he got his BS in electrical engineering. From here, he pursued his passion for bioengineering, earning his MS and PhD from Arizona State University. He obtained his PhD in bioengineering, focusing on cardiac electrophysiology, mapping, and arrhythmias. Following his PhD, he completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, in cardiac electrophysiology research.

  • He joined the University of Utah in 2010 and is a Professor of Surgery with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and is also an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Cardiovascular Medicine. He, along with his team, looks forward to making seminal discoveries for therapeutic benefit in cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Dr. Dosdall’s work focuses on remodeling in cardiac disease with a particular emphasis on understanding the physiologic changes that occur during ischemia and cardiac arrest.
  • He has extensive experience in preclinical translational models, which allow his team to study arrhythmias and treatment in physiologic conditions that closely mimic human cardiac disease and arrest.
  • His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Nora Eccles Foundation, and the American Heart Association and has contributed to improving treatment options for patients with heart disease.

Working in the Dosdall lab is a multidisciplinary group of researchers, trainees, and collaborators within CVRTI, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and other areas of expertise across campus.
